RE and Collective worship in NI
At Phoenix IPS Religious Education and collective worship is inclusive and an opportunity for children to learn about a range of faiths and also learn about those with other beliefs. We follow the core syllabus for religious education for all grant aided schools in Northern Ireland.
Integrated schools have a non-denominational Christian ethos. Indeed, the Council for Integrated Education (NICIE) statement of principles makes it clear that ‘the integrated school provides a Christian based rather than a secular approach.’ As an integrated school we actively encourage all children to be part of these activities, however parents do have a right to withdraw. Children can be partly or wholly excused from attendance at religious education/acts of worship if their parents make a request" (NI Education & Library Order Article 21.5). Our assemblies are inclusive and accessible for all staff and pupils, regardless of their religion or belief background.
If a parent wishes their child(ren) to partly or wholly withdraw from RE or collective worship, they must put this in writing to the Principal.
