General Update for Parents

1st May 2020

We hope you are all managing well.

At present the school is closed but we want to reassure you that things are happening in as normal a way as possible in the background. Here are some areas we thought you might be thinking about.

  1. Admission to Nursery and Year 1: Letters of offers were sent out to parents by the Education Authority and we are beginning to receive acceptance confirmation. Obviously the arrangements for induction and starting are unclear at the moment. Please be reassured that we are thinking creatively about this and will be in touch as soon as we have more details - this will involve guidance from the Department of Education.
  2. Transfer from Year 7 - Post Primary school:Like you, we feel very sad that we may not get to see our Year 7 pupils at the end of the school year and have the normal transition period for them. We have watched them grow and develop since they joined the school and to not say our normal goodbyes is very difficult. Again, we are trying to think of ways to do this in an alternative way! Mr Kelly will lead the way with his creative approach! Once your child receives word of their new school, they will receive help and guidance in relation to transition from them. We will also help as much as we are able.
  3. End of Year school reports: Schools are required by law to prepare one written report to parents per year. Teachers will be preparing school reports based on approximately 6.5 months in school. We will not be reporting on learning during this period, but possibly adding a comment on resilience and how everyone is coping.
  4. Parent Teacher Meeting number 2: These had to be cancelled due to the situation. Please be aware that schools are only obligated by law to provide one PT meeting per year. You may remember that staff opted to facilitate a second meeting to support you. If you wish to have any tips/guidance or help please contact your child's teacher via email.
  5. Special Needs: Reviewing Individual Education Plans - Again we will endeavor to carry out our reviews in a creative way and will be in touch with you about what this might look like.

We hope you find this useful. Please be reassured that we are doing the best we can for you all. We may not have all the information you need at this point but as soon as we have details confirmed we will share with you.

Regards
