The aim of this plan is to secure pupils’ academic achievement and personal development.
The School Improvement Plan sets out the school’s strategy and development planning for the three years from 2007-10. It also sets out specific Action Plans for the year ahead (2007-8).
The Plan is developed through discussion by, and consultation with staff, governors and children and is informed by an online interactive School Evaluation Programme (Bluewave). School Self-evaluation will lead to development of the plan throughout the year. It will be reviewed annually. The Plan incorporates the school’s response to any recommendations taken from research material, UK and International Inspection Reports, ETI, DE or Education Board advice.

- Strategic Planning – This section sets out the school’s strategy, for the next 3 years, to realise its vision and achieve its aims. It gives the school its direction.
- Development Plan – Priorities for the next 3 years are identified and drawn from the strategic plan. These priorities are determined through the process of School self-evaluation as well as in response to external priorities, opportunities, requirements and the recommendations made by Ofsted following inspection of the school.
- Action Plan – The detailed operational plans for the years ahead. (These are internal working documents available for inspection)

Learning and Teaching – Objectives
- To manage the phased introduction of the Revised Northern Ireland Curriculum (RNIC)
- To implement developments in Literacy ( Phonics & Reading Improvements & Writing Progress) and , Numeracy ( Focus on Improving Processes Development) and ICT (in line with the RNIC and towards the achievement of the Becta ICT Quality Mark)
- To fully implement and constantly review all curriculum and management policies over the next 3 years
- To embed a culture of personal learning targets and reflective learning (Assessment for Learning)
- To enhance the whole school infrastructure and provision of ICT to standards complementary of the ICT Quality Mark
Strategic Intention:
Phoenix Integrated Primary School will be the school of first choice for Parents who wish for quality educational standards in a high achieving integrated, inclusive and diverse learning environment.
Strategic Goals: (personal, premises and standards)
- Lead the drive towards personalised learning and target-setting for each child, measuring annual value-added
- Lead curriculum developments in line with the RNIC and maintaining academic performance levels
- Lead the school’s continuous building expansion programme increasing capacity year on year
- Lead Investors in People and Investors in Pupils as the vehicle for school improvement gaining IIP Award by Sept 2010
- Lead the development of people causing distributed leadership at all levels, at pupil, staff and parent level
- Lead the acquisition of the ICT Quality Mark and Inclusion Quality Mark by Dec 2009
Community Objectives (School in local, national and international context)
- By June 2009 our school will have taken part in religious celebrations including representatives from all the main churches in Cookstown
- By June 2009 quantifiable links will be in place with second level colleges including Cookstown High School, Holy Trinity College, Integrated College Dungannon and Sperrin Integrated College.
- By Oct 2008 a CRIS (Community Relations In Schools Link) will have been established.
- By June 2008 the school Principal will have taken part in a European Schools Study visit to both Greece and Poland -contributing to the school’s international dimension.
- By June 2008 the School Council will be fully formed and have made quantifiable contributions to decision making within the school..
- By June 2008 a link with an Educate Together school will have been established in Republic of Ireland
- On an ongoing basis maintain and expand on networking and partnership relationships within the Cookstown community and with all School Principals in view of exploring collaboration opportunities for mutual benefit.
